We are runaway bodies
seeking light
in each other’s hearts.
Like searchlights,
we do not need the sun
to direct us.
We are enough for ourselves
and we find love
even in the darkest alleys
and nights.
I asked you to live inside
my heart because
I used to be an empty house.
Devoid of laughter
or even the sound of a suppressed chuckle.
I left my happiness
in a scrapyard waiting for its
brittle bones to
know the road that soldiers never
return from.
You, a glowing sun brave enough to
withstand all the forms of my depression
sank into my body.
I swear I can no longer recollect the language of
or the song of sadness.
With you, I have found stars
pregnant with glitter
and as you remain, hand wrapped
around mine. I feel my life
wearing a new colour.
The one of light.
The one that refuses to
fold like a paper being sent
to drown as a boat.
We are giant searchlights,
seeking love even in the heart of darkness.
(For Cini,
because you’re everything.)
