Opera Mini announces Victor Moses as brand ambassador. Go Naija!
As a part of its plan to strengthen its place in Nigeria, Opera has announced Chelsea FC’s and super Eagles of Nigeria’s star player, Victor Moses, as the brand ambassador of its popular browser, Opera Mini.
Moses will be featured in the new Opera Mini TV commercial as well as a range of collaborative projects extending throughout 2018, the tech company says in a statement.
The announcement of Moses as a brand ambassador coincides with Opera’s recent announcement to invest $100 million USD (30 billion Nigerian nairas) in Africa over the next two years with the goal of strengthening the internet ecosystem in countries such as Nigeria.
Pray for Buhari, APC begs Nigerians
The Publicity Secretary of All Progressives Congress in Ondo State, Mr Abayomi Adesanya, on Monday urged Nigerians to pray for good health and quick recovery of President Muhammadu Buhari. Adesanya made the call while speaking with journalists in Lagos. President Buhari had on Sunday, May 7, travelled to London for a follow-up medical consultation with his doctors.
The APC spokesman appealed for more patience by Nigerians and urged them to pray for good health of the President. “Nigerians, home and abroad should continue to pray for the good health and quick recovery of President Muhammadu Buhari so that he can complete the rebuilding of a new prosperous Nigeria free of corruption and nepotism,” he said.
He said that Nigeria was on the verge of collapse when President Buhari took over from the previous administration led by Dr Goodluck Jonathan.
Lady drags father to court for not allowing her marry her choice of man.
A 23-year-old spinster, Khadija Ibrahim, has dragged her father, Ibrahim Bassa, to court for refusing to accept her suitor because he is not a Fulani man. Khadija on Monday sued her father before an Upper Area Court, Karu, Abuja for not allowing her to marry a man of her choice. She said, “He has refused to grant my request for marriage and he has also not given me a satisfactory explanation to that effect.
The lady further prayed the court to order her father to allow her to get married to the suitor whose name she gave as Abdulhamidu. The respondent, however, told the court that the allegations of his daughter were all true. According to Bassa, “I have warned my daughter that marriage is not a child’s play. How can she get married to a man whose root and origin are not known to us?” The judge Abdullahi Baba, fixed May 29 for continuation of the matter.
Court fines Gov. El-Rufai N50,000 for breaching lawyer’s right to life
Kaduna State High Court 9 presided by Hon. Justice Esther Lolo, Monday asked Governor Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai of Kaduna state to pay N50,000 as fine to one Barrister Gloria Mabeiam Ballason in suit nos KDH/KAD/164/17 between her and the governor. The court also restrained the governor from arresting, prosecuting and jailing the young lawyer for expressing her published opinion in a Nigerian newspaper.
According to her lawyers, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the Governor of Kaduna State had threatened to arrest and prosecute Gloria for her civic activities including an opinion article she wrote on November 28th, 2016 in her column in the Blueprint Newspaper.
Rapper Travis Scott arrested for inciting ‘riot’
Rapper Travis Scott was arrested after a concert in Arkansas with police accusing him of “inciting a riot” as the crowd rushed to the stage, injuring several people.
In the latest such incident for the 25-year-old, an enthusiastic crowd pushed through barricades to move closer to him at the arena concert Saturday night.
Video footage posted online shows Scott energetically dancing and revving up the crowd but later asking fans to step back and politely thanking the fire marshals after completing his hit “Goosebumps.” Scott was released without bail, meaning he will need to return to Arkansas to hear the charges.
