Hey Synners!

I wrote this poem exactly a year and a month ago. Like some of the works I write, this poem has a piece of me. I hope you read, share and give me feedback in the comment section.

If I were not a girl
I would say I love her,
I would not be this coy person,
Waiting for her to make the first ten moves.
My ears will be closed to her faux indifference,
Making her realize that all I need are her arms.
I would go after her,
Cradling her shamelessly to my chest.

If I were not a girl,
I would make moves, flirt and bombard her with John,
lots of John and Eminem
Nickelback and Avril.
I would invite her over and then purposely keep my hands to myself
Driving her mad with my scent and the smell of my longing.
My body would scream ‘touch me’ but my lips would say
‘My body is a temple, defile not’.
She must partake in this madness for two.
Madness is not meant for the streets only.

If I were not a girl,
It won’t take this damn long.
To make her realize that I want to legalize the forbidden
But when the forbidden stays too long, it becomes
A stale concoction of left-over desires
Never to be rekindled, even over a raging furnace.
Dying embers and cold ashes
Are all that are left
long after the jollof rice is eaten.
